THE GAMBIA

A country full

of

life

.

But also of

invisible challenges

.

The Gambia is a country rich in humanity, culture

and hope. But behind the smiles, millions of

people face a reality every day that

the rest of the world often does not see.

A simple infection can turn into

an emergency.

A diagnosis may come too late. A treatable illness

can become a death sentence simply because

there is a lack of trained staff, medical equipment and adequate care.

“Behind every number is a person, and behind every person is a story.” ♡

When

health

becomes a

daily

challenge

.

Imagine a mother walking for miles under the sun with her sick child, not knowing whether she will find a qualified doctor.

Imagine an elderly person with diabetes who cannot check their blood sugar regularly.

Imagine an infection that, if treated in time, could be resolved with just a few medicines, but instead worsens until it puts a person’s life at risk.

These are not exceptions.

This is everyday life for many people.

Why does the

healthcare system

struggle to respond?

Behind every story lies a combination of problems that, when added together, make access to healthcare extremely difficult.

In many areas of The Gambia, healthcare facilities are few and often far from the villages. To reach a hospital, some families must travel many kilometres and face transport costs that not everyone can afford.

Even when people manage to reach a healthcare facility, the necessary staff, equipment or medicines are not always available. Many healthcare workers operate with limited resources and have few opportunities for professional development, while population growth increases the pressure on the healthcare system every year.

This is compounded by the spread of chronic diseases, the shortage of prevention programmes and the economic difficulties that force many people to delay treatment until the situation becomes critical.

As a result, treatable illnesses can turn into emergencies, and simple interventions may come too late.

''The willingness to help is not lacking.

What is lacking are the

tools

to do so.''

The

Projects

that are changing

this

reality

.

Each project begins with a specific need identified on the ground. Not temporary

interventions, but initiatives developed together with the community to create lasting change.
